In this project we worked together with four students. The task was to redesign the Philips Senseo Original coffee machine. We were supposed to take over the  essential features and give the new Senseo an unique touch and some new features.

With our concept Vario we won the design competition between our design course.

"it's a vario"

  • interchangable frame for an convincing user experience
  • water tank, which is visible from the front
  • 2 in 1: spout= coffeepad holder (for one or two pads)
  • easy to clean- drip tray and spout can be disassembleed  easily
  • very compact and small
  • made out of a minimum of parts which are easy to produce
  • intuitive handling, just three buttons (on/off, one or two cups)
  • height adjustable drip tray for three different heights

Vario gets it's name from the italian word "variazione" which means variation. This comes from the feature to change the look of Vario by changing it's frame.

Vario comes with five different colours. Simply click in your favourite colour and let Vario be a part of your kitchen.

Vario is as colourful as coffee can be.

Common coffeemachines affix the watertank on the back. This has two disadvantages, it's impossible to see how much water is left and the handling is laborious.

A visible watertank in the front visualizes the character of freshness of water and reminds you to refill the water tank.

The capacity of the tank lasts for about eight cups of coffee. This suits small offices and private households the best.
